The Griffith Cottage Gallery was packed last night as over 200 gathered to view the opening of the inaugural Flavourtech eXposed Art Prize. Artists, lovers of art, family and friends excited and in awe at what had been achieved in just ten weeks. Artists from across the state and interstate also came along to take part in this important event. A celebration of art. The quality of art entered stunned most people, including our judge, renowned figurative artist Mr Richard Porter, Julian Ashton Art School Sydney.

It is a remarkable achievement that within just a short space of time an event like this has been able to take place. It had been a dream of former gallery owner Cathy Murphy, to establish an art prize, and she laid that foundation with regular exhibitions at the gallery. The Art prize will now become an annual event and will establish itself as one of the premier regional art prizes in the years ahead.

The entries for the prize came from across the Riverina, NSW and indeed inter-state. Significantly over 60% of entries were from the Riverina and many from our local community. All featuring as a significant part of their composition the human form.

But as with any competition there are winners. Mind you with the quality of the work entered, it became a very difficult process to chose who indeed would take away the major prizes. We would like to say that Griffith and Art were the overall winners in this event.

But on the night the following artists and art works were awarded:

Di Tarr Youth Award :
Winner - Jessica Forster - Sebastian
Highly Commended - Luca Vico - The Dark Samurai
Highly Commended - Holly Temporali - I’m not perfect

Country Energy 3D Award ($1000) :
Winner - Gary Barden - Bright Spark
Highly Commended - Christine Battachio - exposed

Anna & Sophie DeBortoli Figure Drawing Award ($1000):
Winner - Jennifer Forster - Free Dance
Highly Commended - Lorraine Blackwell - Aine -“Onya”

Griffith City Motors Honda Riverina Artist Award - ($1000)
Winner - Jennifer Forster

Quarisa Wines & Amaland Agco Art Award - ($3000)
Winner - Janet Jones - Figure with Patchwork

The value of the works entered exceeds $80000.”

“We have a large Riverina contingent who have entered and I think the public will be captured by the depth of talent and the degree to which the artists have exposed themselves.”

“The logistics of the award and exhibition have been incredible” said Marg Couch one of the organisers behind the award, “ we originally aimed at around 40 works, and the response has been amazing, we are constantly in awe at the what is being entered, it is challenging, confronting and in many ways very moving”

“I am particularly impressed with the work being entered by young people”

The catalogue and programme have been finalised and art work is arriving from all corners of the country, and it will be unpacked and hung in the gallery. Judging with take place on Friday with Richard Porter. Friday night will see our gala opening and awards presentation.

One of the very exciting aspects of exposed is the establishment of the exposed Arts Scholarship Trust which will be launched on the night.
